"Split peas and Barley soup a family favorite"

Serves 6-8 | Prep Time 20 minutes | Cook Time 60 minutes

Why I Love This Recipe


Ingredients You'll Need

2 cups split peas
6 cups water
2 cup chicken broth
2 inches chopped leeks
1 clove minced garlic
1 cup barley
2 carrots diced
1 cut up smoked ham hock
1 bay leaf


Directions

Combine all ingredients into a large soup pot
Bring to a boil
lower heat to simmer
Cover and cook
50-60 minutes on low
Watch cause you may need to add more broth
Remove the pot from the heat
Remove the ham hocks
Remove the meat discarding the skin, fat and bones
Chop the removed meat
Reserve the meat
Puree soup if desired
Add broth to thin if needed
Add meat
Serve and Enjoy
