SURPRISE CHILI

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb. lean ground beef
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped onion
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 can (28 oz.) crushed tomatoes
  • (14.4 oz.) Crisp sauerkraut
  • 1 can (15 oz.) pinto beans
  • 1 can (14 oz.) low-sodium beef broth
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

Directions

  • Heat oil in 3-quart saucepan. Brown meat, onions and garlic. Drain. Stir in remaining ingredients. Bring to boil. Reduce heat to low. Simmer, partially covered, for 25 to 30 minutes.
  • 4 to 6 servings
  • Notes: Rinsing sauerkraut prior to draining removes approximately one-half of its sodium

Notes

This is a great football watching chili. Good for topping on a hotdog, also.
