Sweet And Hot Sesame Nori Strips

I took this recipe directly from The Voluptuous Vegan, by Myra Kornfeld and George Minot. My daughters love the flavor of nori, I do not, but we agree on these snacks, they're great!

INGREDIENTS

  • Cooking Time: 20
  • 1/4 c brown rice syrup
  • 1/4 c canola oil
  • large pinch of cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 c sesame seeds
  • 3 nori sheets
  • salt

DIRECTIONS

Place the nori strips on a parchment covered baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes. Remove from oven, let sit for a few minutes to allow the coating to set, then turn the strips over and paint the other sides with the syrup mixture. Sprinkle as before with sesame seeds and salt. Return to oven for 10 minutes, then set aside for 20 minutes to crisp. Break each strip in two pieces.

Nori is the seaweed used for making sushi. It's a thin, brittle sheet, usually square and its dark greenish-black in color. Most supermarkets have it in the Asian food section, and Asian markets have it as well. It has a mild taste, not like the seaweed you sometimes get on a salad at a vegan restaurant.
