Sweet Breakfast Casserole
10 slices of French bread, cubed
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, cubed
an apple, sliced
1 cup almonds
1 Tbsp. cinnamon
Place half the bread cubes into a greased 9 x 13 pan. Cover with cream cheese cubes, evenly. Sprinkle with apple slices. Top with remaining bread cubes and almonds. Beat eggs, milk and cinnamon; pour over bread mixture. At this point you can cover and refrigerate overnight or you can leave it set for awhile and do the same day.
Before baking, combine 3/4 cup butter or margarine, 3/4 cup brown sugar and 2 Tbsp. corn syrup in a saucepan. Bring to a boil. Pour over the top of the strata and bake at 350 for 35 minutes. Sprinkle with powdered sugar and serve with syrup.
