Texas Sheet Cake

Serves 20-24 | Prep Time 30 | Cook Time 20

Ingredients

2 cups sugar
2 cups flour
1/2 cup butter (or margarine)
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup water
4 T cocoa
1/2 cup buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp vanilla

Icing:
1 stick butter or margarine
4 T cocoa
6 T milk
1 lb powdered sugar
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup nuts (optional)


Sift together sugar and flour. Boil in a saucepan the shortening, butter, water, and cocoa. Pour over the flour and sugar mixture. Mix while still hot. Add buttermilk, eggs, baking soda, and vanilla. Bake on a greased and floured 15x10x1" cookie sheet at 400° for 20 minutes.



For the icing: Bring to a boil the butter, cocoa and milk. Add the sugar and vanilla (and nuts) and mix well. Pour over the cake while still hot. Sprinkle a few nuts on top.
