The Gazebo Hazelnut Torte
5 eggs, separated
3/4 cup sugar
1/2 cup ground hazelnuts
1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup icing sugar
1 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted
2 cups icing sugar
4 sq. unsweetened chocolate, melted
1 tb. hazelnut chocolate spread (Nutella)
Grease two 7” layer cake pans and line the bottoms with waxed paper.
Beat egg yolks and sugar until thick and creamy. Beat egg whites until they form stiff peaks. Fold the ground hazelnuts and egg whites into the egg yolk mixture. Divide between the two prepared pans and bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 30 minutes or until set. Leave for 10 minutes before removing to racks to cool.
Cream butter and icing sugar. Add the 1 sq. of melted chocolate. Spread this over one of the cake layers and place the other layer on top.
Mix the remaining icing sugar, melted chocolate and hazelnut chocolate spread. Add enough water to make it of spreading consistency. Ice top and sides of layered cake. Decorate with 8 whole hazelnuts.
