VALENTINE COOKIES

Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb (1 Cup) Margarine, softened
  • 2 1/2 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 Cup confectioners' (aka icing or powered) sugar
  • 1 Tablespoon milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 or 2 drops of pink food colouring (optional)
  • Chocolate or other flavour icing (optional)

Directions

  • 1. Preheat oven to 325F (170C)
  • 2. Mix margarine with a mixer until light
  • 3. Add remaining ingredients until just blended
  • 4. Knead until velvety
  • 5. Roll 1/2 the dough at a time to about 1/4 inch thick, use only a small amount of flour
  • 6. Cut out desired shape (we used hearts), and place on lightly greased baking sheet
  • 7. Bake about 12 minutes. Cookies should be hard and crispy when baked properly
  • 8. Ice once cooled

Notes

I thought these could be sweeter. Make sure they are baked well or else they taste pasty. Was fun to make cookies with the kids, like playing with playdough.
