Valentine Cookies

Serves 12 | Prep Time | Cook Time 12 minutes

Ingredients

1/2 lb (1 Cup) Margarine, softened
2 1/2 Cups all-purpose flour
1 Cup confectioners' (aka icing or powered) sugar
1 Tablespoon milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 or 2 drops of pink food colouring (optional)
Chocolate or other flavour icing (optional)


1. Preheat oven to 325F (170C)


2. Mix margarine with a mixer until light


3. Add remaining ingredients until just blended


4. Knead until velvety


5. Roll 1/2 the dough at a time to about 1/4 inch thick, use only a small amount of flour


6. Cut out desired shape (we used hearts), and place on lightly greased baking sheet


7. Bake about 12 minutes. Cookies should be hard and crispy when baked properly


8. Ice once cooled

Notes

I thought these could be sweeter. Make sure they are baked well or else they taste pasty. Was fun to make cookies with the kids, like playing with playdough.
