Vanilla Sauce for Woolworth's Apple Dumplings:
1 pt. milk
8 oz. granulated sugar
pinch of salt
1/2 oz. cornstarch
1/2 tsp. vanilla
Bring milk to boil in saucepan. Combine sugar, salt,
cornstarch and egg. Mix until well blended. Add to milk.
Stir with wire whip to blend completely. Return to heat and
boil 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add vanilla. Stir.
Serve sauce warm over apple dumplings. Makes enough for 12
Note: There is never enough vanilla sauce, I make a
double batch. Also good with vanilla ice cream.
