  • 2 C. flour
  • 2 C. sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 C. sour cream
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 2 sticks oleo
  • 1 C. water
  • 1 tsp. lemon juice
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • Icing:
  • 5 T. milk
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1 stick oleo
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 C. coarsely chopped walnuts


  • Combine flour, sugar, salt, eggs, sour cream, and soda in large bowl BUT DO NOT MIX. Bring 2 sticks oleo, water, lemon juice, and 1 tsp. vanilla to a boil. Add boiled mixture to flour mixture while hot and mix well with an electric mixer. Pour into greased jelly roll pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Make icing while cake is baking. Bring to a boil 1 stick oleo and milk. Remove from heat. Add powdered sugar, vanilla, and nuts. Spread on hot cake. Allow to cool before serving.
