Why I Love This Recipe

I created this recipe. Roselle(Gongura in my language) flowers health benefits are amazing. I added spices and seasoned it. It turned out very well. My brother loved it. Gongura flowers available once a year around Christmas period. You can find them in farmers market and Indian stores. They are easy to find at Mexican markets.

This chutney tastes sour, spicy and sweet. These flowers provide significant amounts of fiber; it is rich in vitamin C, A, B6, Iron, Magnesium, Potassium and Calcium. This contains Polyphenolicacids, Flavonoids, and Anthocyanins. If you suffer from allergies, introduce edible flowers into your body gradually, as they may exacerbate allergies. These flowers having a cooling effect and act as an appetizer. These are very useful in relieving symptoms of fever. These flowers relieve indigestion, cold and cough. It cleanses the intestines and removes infections from the body.


Ingredients You'll Need

Half kg of gongura(Roselle) flowers and seasoning stuff(2 spoons of oil, half spoon mustard seeds, half spoon jeera seeds, 8 red chillis, 8 garlic cloves(optional) salt to taste, sugar or jaggery 2 spoons.


Directions

Wash gongura flowers thoroughly, Separate green seeds from red petals. We just use red petals and through green seeds.Take a pan, add oil, season it with mustard seeds, Jeera seeds, 8 cloves of garlic (u can skip if you don't like), hing, chana dal (1 tab spoon ful), urad dal (1 tab spoonful), 8 red chillis. Grind this stuff after cooling. In the same pan add these petals and sauté it with no oil or half spoon of oil. Petals are very tender and in couple of minutes it turns to paste. Add crushed seasoning stuff to this paste. Add salt to taste and also add two spoons of sugar/Jaggery. This chutney tastes sour, spicy and sweet.
