INGREDIENTS

  • Cooking Time: 60 minutes
  • Servings: 4
  • Preparation Time: 25 minutes
  • meatballs:
  • 1/2 pound ground chuck
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 3 tbl.golden rasins soaked in water and drained
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 2 tbl. dry bread crumbs
  • 2 tbl. fresh grated parmigiano-reggiano cheese
  • 1 tbl. chopped thyme
  • 1 tbl. chopped parsley
  • 1 tbl. water
  • 1 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. ground pepper
  • 1 tbl.evoo(extra virgin olive oil)
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • sauce:
  • 1 tbl. evoo(extra virgin olive oil)
  • 1/2 cup minced onion
  • 1 garlic clove,minced
  • 1 15 ounce can chopped tomatoes
  • 1 tsp. dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 cups frozen peas
  • salt and fresh ground pepper

DIRECTIONS

1. Make the meatballs:preheat broiler.In a bowl,mix the chuck,pork,raisins,egg,onion,bread crubs,cheese,thyme,parsley,water,salt and pepper with your hands.Form into 24 meatballs.


2. spread oil on baking sheet,add meatballs and broil 3 inches from the heat for seven minutes,rolling a few times until nicely browned.turn the oven to 400 and bake five minutes than transfer meatballa to baking dish and add the wine.


3. make the sauce: In a saucepan,heat the oil.Add onionand garlic and cook over moderate heat for five minutes.add the tomatoes and oreganoand cook for five minutes.Add peas and cook for five minutes until thickened.season with salt and pepper


4. Pour sauce over meatballs and bake for thirty minutes or until sauce is bubling. Let rest for ten minutes than serve.


(you can serve this with rice or mashed potatoes)

This recipe came from food and wine magazine last month.It was so good I had to share it with you.I was looking for a meatball recipie to share with some friends who were coming for a dinner party. While this recpie wasn't quite right for the party,I made swedish meatballs for that,I made this for myself and loved it.
