Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Butter and flour two 9 in round cake pans or one rectangular pan. Cream butter, shortening and sugar with paddle attatchment in mixer. Sift flour, baking powder, and salt. Add eggs to butter and sugar mixture one at a time. Add in milk and flour in thirds ending with flour. Add vanilla. Do not over mix. Pour into cake pans. Bake until tooth pick comes out clean (about 20 min).
