- 1 pkg. yeast
- 5 cups flour
- 1 cup shortening
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 tsp. Salt
- 3 tsp. Baking powder
- 1 tsp. Soda
- 3 tsp. Sugar
- Dissolve yeast in 1/3 cup warm water. Mix rest of dry ingredients and cut in shortening. Add yeast mixture and buttermilk. Mix well.
- Roll out and cut. (I use a glass) Place on cookie sheet and let rise for about 30 minutes. Bake at 425º for 10-12 minutes.
- Dough can be refrigerated for up to three days. If using cold dough, let rise a little longer.
- Tips do not over knead makes them tough. Do not twist the glass or cutter it seals the edges & will not let them rise
