Baked Ziti

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 (16 ounce) package dry ziti pasta
  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 (28 ounce) jars spaghetti sauce
  • 6 ounces sliced provolone cheese (I used 8 ounces shredded)
  • 6 ounces sliced mozzarella cheese (I used 8 ounces shredded)
  • 1 1/2 cups sour cream
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Oregano, sprinkle top before baking (my addition)
DIRECTIONS
  1. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a boil. Add pasta and cook for 8 to 10 minutes or until al dente; drain.
  2. In a large skillet, brown beef over medium heat. Add onions; saute until tender. Drain off fat and add spaghetti sauce; simmer for about 15 minutes.
  3. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  4. In a lightly greased 2 quart baking dish (I used 13x9), place about half of the pasta; top with a layer of provolone and mozzarella cheese slices. Spread on a layer of half the spaghetti sauce mixture and sour cream.
  5. Cover with remaining pasta, cheese and sauce; sprinkle a layer of Parmesan cheese and oregano.
  6. Bake in preheated oven for about 30 minutes or until cheese and sauce are bubbly.
  7. Serve.
RECIPE BACKSTORY
Who wants to bake when it is so hot out? Not me! Well, DH requested that I make an Italian dish before we left on vacation and since I always make new recipes on vacation that left me with 2 options and they were stuffed shells or baked ziti since I have never made either one of them! I found the perfect recipe from a friend of mine, Sue, aka sueszoo! My DH raved about this dish and so did the kids (me too) as it was delicious! It was so tasty and definitely comfort food! The aroma in the condo was out of this world and even outside people were commenting on the great aroma! I served this with garlic bread! Yummy!
