Chocolate Crinkle Cookies

  • Preparation Time: 30 minutes
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 2/3 cup sugar
  • 2 t vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 one-ounce squares unsweetened chocolate melted
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 t baking powder
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
DIRECTIONS
  1. Cream shortening, sugar and vanilla.
  2. Beat in eggs, then melted chocolate
  3. Sift flour, baking powder, salt
  4. Add milk. Stir well.
  5. Add walnuts
  6. Chill dough.
  7. Form one-inch balls.
  8. Roll in powdered sugar.
  9. Place on greased baking sheets two-three inches apart
  10. (I use parchment paper)
  11. Bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes (we like them crisp)
  12. Cool slightly. Remove from pan.
RECIPE BACKSTORY
One of my favorite cookies. Easy, pretty and delicious! My niece is alergic to nuts so I omit them when I make them for her - and the cookie is still delicious!
