Delicious Swiss Steak
INGREDIENTS
- 1 tablespoon dry mustard
- 1/2 cup flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 tablespoons oil
- 1 1/2 pound round steak, 1 inch thick
- 1 medium onion, sliced thin
- 3 carrots, shredded, or sliced
- 1 1/2 cups canned tomatoes
- 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons brown sugar
- salt, to taste
DIRECTIONS
- Mix together mustard, flour and salt. Pound dry mixture into steak covering both sides. (I use the side of a salad plate to pound the seasoning in, of course you can use a meat mallet, if you have one.) Brown on both sides in two tablespoons oil. Place meat in a glass baking dish. Cover meat with onions, tomatoes and carrots. Sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce, salt and brown sugar over all. Bake at 325 degrees for 2 hours.
