Dulce de Leche Bars

  • 1 1/2 cups AP flour
  • 1 1/2 cups quick-cooking or old fashion oats
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup butter or margarine. softened
  • 1 can (13.4oz) dulce de leche
  • 1 cup toffee bits
DIRECTIONS
  1. Heat oven to 350.
  2. In a large bowl mix flour, oats, brown sugar and salt.
  3. With pastry blender or form, cut in butter until mixture is crumbly.
  4. Press 3/4 mixture into ungreased 13x9 pan.
  5. Bake 10 minutes.
  6. Meanwhile, in 1 quart saucepan heat dulce de leche over low heat 2 - 4 minutes.
  7. Stirring frequently, until slightly softened.
  8. Spread dulce de leche over partially baked crust. Sprinkle evenly with toffee bits and ramaining crumb mixture.
  9. Bake 20 - 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  10. Cool 15 minutes.
  11. Run knife around sides of pan to loosen bars.
  12. Cool completely (about 30 minutes).
  13. For bars, cut in 8 rows by 4 rows.
