Elaine Mazur's Dump Cake
INGREDIENTS
  • 1 20 oz can sweetened crushed pineapple
  • 1 can cherry pie filling (ex. Comstock more fruit)
  • * Option: use any other pie filling flavor you want
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
  • 1 stick or 1/2 cup of butter/ Margarine
  • *My variation:
  • 2- 20 oz cans sweetened crushed pineapple
  • 1 can cherry pie filling (Ex. Comstock more fruit)
  • 1 can blueberry pie filling (Ex. Comstock more fruit)
  • 1 cup sweetened coconut minced
  • 2 boxes yellow cake mix
  • 1 1/2 cups crushed Almonds, Pecans or walnuts
  • 2 sticks or 1 cup butter/ Margarine
DIRECTIONS
  1. Grease 1 13" x 9" pan
  2. Dump pineapple w/ juice into pan and spread evenly
  3. Dump in pie filling by the TBS all over the pineapple and spread out a lil
  4. Sprinkle cake mix over cherry layer evenly
  5. Sprinkle nuts evenly over top of cake layer
  6. Dot butter evenly over nut layer
  7. Bake at 350 until top is browned
  8. * My variation:
  9. Grease 2 13" x 9" pans
  10. Dump 1 can of pineapple w/ Juice in each pan and spread evenly
  11. Sprinkle 1/2 cup minced coconut evenly over pineapple layer in each pan
  12. In bowl mix blueberry and cherry pie fillings together and divide in 1/2 *NOTE Lately I don't mix them together and alternate TBS full of each kind over top of the coconut layer in each pan. (1/2 can of each pie filling in each pan) Takes a lil more time but I think it looks and tastes better that way
  13. Dump 1/2 of pie filling mix by TBS evenly over pineapple layer in both pans and spread out a little
  14. Sprinkle 1 box cake mix evenly over pie filling layer in each pan
  15. Sprinkle 3/4 cup crushed nuts evenly over cake mix layer in each pan
  16. Dot 1 stick or 1/2 cup of butter evenly over nut layer in each pan
  17. Bake at 350 until top is browned
  18. * The reason I make 2 is so I don't waste the leftover pie filling I'd have if I only made 1
RECIPE BACKSTORY
My Grandmother (Elaine Mazur "Nanna") would make this dessert for our family get togethers. She loved this recipe :) Think it was also because it was no mix. She got it from a magazine.
