Fluffy Bakers Icing

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 1/2 cups milk
  • 2 Tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • dash salt
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
DIRECTIONS
  1. Cook milk and cornstarch until thickened.
  2. Then cool to lukewarm.
  3. Whip shortening, sugar and butter for 10 minutes.
  4. Add salt and vanilla.
  5. Add the milk cornstarch mixture and whip until fluffy.
RECIPE BACKSTORY
I hate sickening sweet icing and this is not one of those. It is very rich but tastes so good on so many cakes. This is my favorite frosting/icing for a red velvet cake.
