Scrunch
INGREDIENTS
  • Cooking Time: 20 mins

  • Preparation Time: 20 mins
  • 8 oz margarine
  • 4 oz sugar
  • 4 oz syrup
  • 4 oz coconut flakes (optional)
  • 4 oz cornflakes
  • 4 oz oats
  • 4 oz white SR flour
  • Other options: sultanas, bran flakes, other similar cereals
DIRECTIONS
  1. 1. Preheat oven to gas mark 5
  2. 2. Butter a 1 inch deep (at least) baking tray
  3. 3. Melt marg, sugar and syrup together
  4. 4. Mix cereals, oats, coconut and flour together in a large bowl
  5. 5. Pour in all of the molten mixture
  6. 6. Stir thoroughly until all is coated evenly
  7. 7. Pour into baking tray and push gently to all sides and corners
  8. 8. Place in oven for 20 mins until golden brown
  9. 9. When done, remove from oven, using a sharp knife, carefully cut into squares or small rectangles whilst still hot
  10. 10. Allow to cool to room temperature, if wanted then you can keep cutting every few mins or so
  11. 11. Place wire rack on top of tray and flip upside down, scrunch pieces should fall out and remain separated
RECIPE BACKSTORY
This is a traybake and very similar to Flapjack recipes only a lot more crunchy and adaptable. Apart from the margarine, it is basically a 4oz for everything mixture. If you wish to add more cereals then you will need more syrup mixture to account for the extra dry ingredients.
