Stuffed Green Peppers – Aunt Sherry
INGREDIENTS
- Ingredients for Stuffing:
- 4 medium green peppers
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 onion chopped medium
- ¼ c celery sliced
- 1 large egg
- ¼ c uncooked rice
- 1 Tbl. Worcestershire sauce
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp salt
- ¼ tsp black pepper
- Large dash of ground Thyme
- ½ tsp basil
- Ingredients for Sauce:
- 1 14.5 oz can whole tomatoes
- 1 8 oz can tomato sauce
- Salt/pepper/garlic powder to taste
- Large dash of ground Thyme
- 1tsp sweet basil
DIRECTIONS
- Remove stem and seeds from peppers. Clean and set aside.
- In medium mixing bowl, combine all of the stuffing ingredients. Mix well. Divide in 4 parts and place into the green peppers.
- In 2 quart baking dish, mix whole tomatoes with juice and tomato sauce together.
- Cut tomatoes in half or quarters. Add salt, pepper, garlic to taste. Add Thyme and basil. Mix well.
- Place stuffed peppers in baking dish. Scoop some of the sauce and tomatoes over the peppers.
- Cover with foil and bake 1 hour and 15-20 minutes in preheated 350 degree oven.
- Cut into center of pepper to check for doneness. Meat should be born. If meat is still pink, cook an additional 10-15 minutes. Serves 4
