Verna's Seven Layer Dinner

  • 6 potatoes, peeled and sliced
  • 2 stalks celery, sliced
  • 1 bell pepper, sliced into rings
  • 1 med onion, sliced
  • 1/2 lb mushrooms, sliced (optional, Mom didn't use)
  • 1 carrot, sliced (optional, Mom didn't use)
  • 1 can tomatoes, chunked
  • 1-1 1/2 lb ground beef
  • salt, pepper & garlic powder to taste
DIRECTIONS
  1. Layer the bottom of a 9 X 13 inch baking pan with the potatoes. Salt & pepper.
  2. Brown hamburger meat with garlic, salt & pepper. Layer over potatoes.
  3. Layer the rest of the vegetables over the potatoes and meat.
  4. Top with can of tomatoes.
  5. Note: Aunt Frankie uses pork chops in her seven layer dinner. Any combination of vegetables would work well in this dish, use the portions that you like.
  6. Bake at 350 degrees F until bubbly.
