Kashmir does experience violence in one form or the other, but it is rare that tourists get caught up in such a situation. Stone-pelting, gun fights and any other violence rarely occur in main tourist areas like Srinagar Dal Lake, Gulmarg, Pahalgam or Sonmarg. Tourists are absolutely safe in Kashmir.
