5 No Cook Appetizers

Every summer cooks throughout the world face the same dilemma – to cook or not to cook, that is the question. Just because it’s hot outside doesn’t mean you can’t throw a killer party. In fact, lots of tasty recipes don’t require a stove or an open flame.

Here are five tried and true no cook appetizers that are as easy to eat as they are to make. Many can be served at room temperature. And none require a plate.

Caprese on a Stick: Take one small ball of mozzarella, a grape tomato and a bit of basil leaf and skewer them with a toothpick. Sprinkle with salt and pepper, and drizzle with oil to finish them off.

Marinated Mushrooms: Cut button mushrooms into chunks and toss with lemon juice, olive oil, salt and pepper. Let rest five minutes. With a toothpick, spear a piece of mushroom and then a small piece of Parmesan cheese and then another mushroom.

Sweet Prosciutto wraps: Wrap small pieces of melon, figs and/or dates with thinly sliced prosciutto. Hold in place with a toothpick.

Pecan Cheese Rolls: Roll rounded teaspoonfuls of purchased cheese spread (cheddar-horseradish, port wine-cheddar, or Stilton-apricot) into small balls and coat in finely chopped toasted pecans. Poke each with a toothpick so they are easy to grab.
