Why I Love This Recipe

I started experimenting with belly butters during my first pregnancy, and have made several different batches with slightly different results. This is my favorite butter recipe so far. If you don't have all the ingredients, feel free to try substitutions that are similar or you can try my "simple" belly butter, which I used on my belly and boobies my entire first pregnancy and didn't have a single stretch mark. This one is that recipe plus lots of extra good stuff.

Ingredients You'll Need

3T (1.5oz) Cocoa Butter (contains antioxidants and fatty acids, which make it a deep moisturizer and a notable stretch mark reducer)
3T (1.5oz) Shea Butter (helps protect the skin's natural oils, and contains natural vitamins and fatty acids, which make it incredibly nourishing and moisturizing for the skin)
1T (0.5oz) Coconut Oil (rich in fatty acids, vitamin E, and proteins, which keep the skin healthy and rejuvenated)
1T-2T (0.5-1.0oz) Beeswax Pellets (or grated) (for consistency and constitution - add more for thicker butter)

3T (1.5oz) Grapeseed Oil (contains antioxidants, Omega-3, Omega-6, and Omega-9 fatty acids, is rich in vitamins, minerals, and is a great moisturizer)
2T (1.0oz) Rosehip-Infused Coconut Oil (melted) (full of beauty-boosting vitamin A, vitamin C and the essential fatty acids omega-3 and omega-6)
1t (0.17oz) Vitamin E Oil (neutralizes free radicals in the skin, improves skin hydration and speeds cellular regeneration)
1T-3T (0.5-1.5oz) Arrowroot Powder (or cornstarch) (optional - helps the oils absorb into your skin faster, leaving a less greasy feeling - add more for quicker absorption)

50 drops Lavender Essential Oil (for soothing relaxation and aroma)
25 drops Frankincense Essential Oil (an astringent oil which promotes healthy cell regeneration, keeps existing cells and tissues healthy, helps treat dry skin, and reduces the appearance of stretch marks and scars)

Note: I prefer to use my kitchen scale and measure ounces. I would just stick with the same units of measurement throughout the recipe.

- Combine the cocoa butter, shea butter, coconut oil, and beeswax in a double boiler (or a makeshift one with a pyrex/glass bowl over a pan of water). Heat until melted.

- Once the mixture has completely melted, reduce the heat to low/med and start a timer for 20 minutes. (This allows the mixture to fully process, preventing the butter from getting gritty later.)

- After 20 minutes, remove from heat and pour into a separate bowl in an ice bath to cool.

- In a separate smaller container, combine the liquid oils (except the essential oils) and the arrowroot powder. (Use a fork to combine.)

- When the mixture in the ice bath is about halfway hardened (meaning there is still a small pool of liquid on top), pour in the liquid oil/arrowroot mixture.

- Blend with a hand mixer or emulsion blender until there are no chunks left. Scrape the sides of the bowl with a spatula and blend again for 30-60 seconds. Add the essential oils, scrape the sides again, and blend again. You should notice the mixture becoming slightly airy.

- Spoon the butter into a jar or container and seal with an airtight lid.
