Why I Love This Recipe

This recipe comes from my grandmother. I still use her wooden rolling pin to make the crust. I hope you enjoy it as much as my family has enjoyed it for generations. During the holidays, it's a comfort to have a slice with a cup of coffee before starting my day in the operating room.


Ingredients You'll Need

Pie crust x 2 (See Homemade Pie Crust Recipe)
7 large red delicious apples- peeled and sliced into thin chunks
3/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup flour
1/2 tablespoon nutmeg
1/2 tablespoon cinnamon
dash of salt
3 tablespoon butter


Directions

Place 1 pie crust into the bottom of a 9 inch pie pan


Mix sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt together in a large mixing bowl


Add apples to mixing bowl and stir until apples are coated


Place coated apples into pie pan


Add three pads of butter on top of apples


Place second pie crust over apples/butter


Crimp pie crusts together on the edge of the pie pan with a fork


Poke holes into the top of the pie crust


Cover with aluminum foil


Bake for 40 minutes covered


Remove foil and bake for an additional 10 minutes


Remove from oven and allow to cool before serving


Pairs Well With

Vanilla Ice Cream / Coffee
