This recipe came from my mother-in-law and Anna's Danish Pastry is so good that you won't believe it! I made this recipe for years myself and it is always a hit.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 cup butter, divided in half
2 cups flour, sifted
2 Tbsp cold water
1 tsp almond extract
3 eggs
1 cup boiling water
Icing:
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1/2 Tbsp butter
1/2 tsp vanilla
2 Tbsp cream or milk
dash of salt
Garnish: sliced almonds
Directions
Cut first half of butter into flour. Add cold water and stir until blended.
Divide dough in half and press each half onto an ungreased cookie sheet, making each oblong 3" X 12".
Combine boiling water and remaining butter in a small saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add almond extract. Stir in remaining flour and add one egg at a time beating well after each (as for cream puffs).
Spread the saucepan mixture neatly over the oblongs on cookie sheet piling them high in the centers to form tall ridges.
Bake at 425 degrees F for 25 minutes then reduce oven temperature to 325 degrees F for 25 more minutes or until puff part is firm and will not collapse.
While pastry is in the oven, mix icing ingredients together.
Frost pastry while warm. Garnish with sliced almonds. Cut diagonally into 1 1/2" strips.
Enjoy!
