Why I Love This Recipe

These special treats were a favorite when we were growing up. Linda and I spent a lot of time at “Mom” Holladay’s, and she was always coming up with something different. Blond brownies were a favorite of the whole family. My aunt Hazel made these for dozens of Holladay family reunions, but I never knew Mother had the recipe until I was searching for another special something. Just the thought still makes my mouth water! I may have to mix up some of these soon……

Ingredients You'll Need

1/2 cup (1 stick) oleo (butter, for you kids)
3/4 cup sifted flour
2 eggs
1/2 tsp baking powder
1 Tbsp corn starch
1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
1 cup nuts
1/2 cup caramel drops (or chocolate drops)

1 Melt margarine over low heat, and set aside to cool. Beat eggs until light, then beat in corn syrup, sugar, and cooled margarine. Sift flour and baking power together, and stir into egg mixture. Stir in vanilla, nuts, and drops. Spread into well-greased 9X9 pyrex pan. Bake in 350 degree oven for 25 minutes, or until top has a dull crust. Cool before cutting and serving.

Oven Temperature: 350°F
