Why I Love This Recipe
The tradition of gender reveal parties dates back to ancient times when families used various methods to predict the gender of their unborn children, often based on folklore and superstition.
Ingredients You'll Need
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
2 large eggs
1 cup vegetable oil
1 cup buttermilk
2 tbsp blue food coloring
1 tsp white vinegar
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 oz cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
Blue food coloring
Directions
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, baking soda, salt, and cocoa powder.
In another bowl, beat the eggs, oil, buttermilk, food coloring, vinegar, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until smooth.
Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Allow the cakes to cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, confectioners' sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.
Add blue food coloring until the desired shade of blue is achieved.
Place one cake layer on a serving plate and spread a layer of blue cream cheese frosting on top.
Carefully place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides with the remaining frosting.
Slice and reveal the blue interior at the gender reveal celebration!
