Bourbon BBQ Sauce

Why I Love This Recipe
This is kind of a hybrid sauce...a little sweet, a little spicy and a definite vinegar tang! Not too thick...makes a great glaze!
Ingredients You'll Need
1 1/4 cups ketchup
1/2 cup dark brown sugar
1/4 cup molasses
1/4 cup pineapple juice
1/4 cup water
1 tablespoon hickory liquid smoke
2 1/2 teaspoons ground mustard
2 teaspoons hot or smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
pinch cayenne pepper
1 1/2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 1/2 cups Bourbon
1 1/2 cups apple cider vinegar
3 Tbsp. well crushed/smashed fresh garlic
1 1/2 tsp. crushed red pepper
Directions
Whisk together the first 12 ingredients in a medium sauce pan over medium heat.
Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, until sugar has dissolved.
In a separate pan, add the Bourbon, vinegar, red pepper and garlic.
Bring to a boil reduce heat and simmer for five minutes.
Turn off the heat and allow to cool to room temperature.
Strain the liquid into the ketchup based sauce and stir until combined.
Discard the red pepper and garlic.
Serve immediately or cover and store in the refrigerator.
Once cooled, you may portion and freeze the sauce. Then thaw in the fridge and use as needed.
