Why I Love This Recipe
The traditional British breakfast has been a staple since the Victorian era, originally designed as an elaborate and hearty meal to start the day with energy.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 small can Heinz baked beans
2 slices of bread
1/2 cup fresh mushrooms, washed and sliced
1 medium fresh tomato, halved
1 hash brown patty
2 uncooked sausage links
1 egg
Butter for spreading
Olive oil for cooking, divided
Salt and pepper to taste
Directions
***For the Toast and Beans***
1. Heat the baked beans in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally until bubbling. Then, reduce the heat to low to keep warm.
2. Toast the slices of bread in a toaster until golden brown. Spread butter on the toasted slices and set aside.
***For the Sautéed Vegetables***
3. Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced mushrooms, season with salt and pepper, and sauté for 3-4 minutes until golden and tender. Remove them from the skillet and keep warm.
4. In the same skillet, add a bit more olive oil if necessary, and place the tomato halves cut-side down. Cook for about 2-3 minutes, then season with salt and pepper and set aside.
***For the Hash Brown***
5. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
6. Place the hash brown patty in the air fryer basket.
7. Cook for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy and golden on both sides.
***For the Sausages***
8. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F (190°C). Place the sausage links in the air fryer basket and cook for about 10-12 minutes, turning halfway through, until browned and cooked through.
***For the Egg***
9. Heat a small amount of olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Crack the egg into the skillet and season with salt and pepper.
10. Cook the egg to your preferred doneness: about 2-3 minutes for sunny-side up or 4-5 minutes for over-easy. Adjust time as needed for desired doneness.
***Assembly***
11. Assemble your breakfast on a large plate. Spoon the heated baked beans over the buttered toast, lay the mushroom slices and tomato on the side, place the crispy hash brown and sausages alongside. Add the cooked egg on top or on the side.
12. Serve immediately and enjoy your British Breakfast Bonanza!
Pairs Well With
For an alcoholic pairing, enjoy your breakfast with a light mimosa made with fresh orange juice and prosecco. For a non-alcoholic option, a strong cup of English Breakfast tea with a dash of milk makes a perfect companion.
