Why I Love This Recipe

These bars have a rich caramel-like taste and a wonderful chewy texture. A nice compliment to brownies on a platter of bars. They really hit the spot with piping hot coffee or ice cold milk.


Ingredients You'll Need

1 1/3 cups flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup brown sugar, packed
1/2 cup butter (one stick) softened
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 cup chopped walnuts


Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 9 X 9 X 1 3/4 inch pan.


Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.


In a large bowl, beat together butter, sugar, egg, and vanilla until smooth.


Stir in the flour mixture and nuts until well blended.


Spread evenly into prepared pan.


Bake 25 to 30 minutes or until surface springs back when gently pressed.


Cool slightly. While still warm, cut into bars with a sharp knife.
