Why I Love This Recipe
A good buddy and band mate of mine used to own a Sub Shop. He served a sandwich called a Roast Beef and Cheese Sauce sandwich. It was to die for. I never did get an exact recipe, but simply experimented until I got close. My kids growing up loved the stuff. To this day every time they come to visit this is the requested (more like required) dish. I use on a multitude of dishes but mostly some form of beef sandwich including Hamburgers. I even use to spice up Steak ums.
Ingredients You'll Need
2 cups Provolone Cheese (grated)
1 Tsp Garlic Salt
1/2 Cup Mayonnaise (NOT Miracle Whip)
2 Tbsp Butter or Bacon Grease
3/4 Cup Milk
2 Tbsp Flour
This is one of those good ole Southern Recipes you kind of wing and adjust it on amounts depending on taste, consistency, and number of servings.
In a sauce pan, melt 2 - 3 tablespoons of butter or bacon grease. Whisk in flour to create roux. Add a about 3/4 cup of milk. Once mixed and heated Add 1/2 cup of Mayo. Add 1 Tsp Garlic salt (I use Garlic salt, then gradually add Garlic Powder if I want a little more garlic flavor.). At medium heat begin adding Provolone cheese until melted and desired consistency reached.
My suggestion, make exactly to this recipe first, then experiment each time to make it your own.
