Butter Cookies

Why I Love This Recipe
Family tradition for Christmas time!
Ingredients You'll Need
5 cups flour {aprox}
1 pound butter {softened to room temp}
2 eggs
1 & 1/2 - 1 & 3/4 cup sugar {according to taste}
1 & 1/2 teaspoons vanilla
Pinch of salt {if using unsalted butter}
Colored sugar crystals {use red & green for Christmas, Orange for Halloween, etc}
Directions
Pour 5 cups flours into large mixing bowl.
In a separate bowl, mix butter and sugar by hand until thoroughly blended. Put to the side.
In another bowl, beat 2 eggs and add vanilla {and salt if using}
Pour egg/vanilla mixture into the butter/sugar mixture. Use a fork or spoon to blend.
Slowly pour a little bit of the wet mixture into the flour and knead by hand. Continue to pour little at a time until wet mixture is completely blended in with the flour. Knead well. Roll into a ball. Let sit for about 10 minutes.
You can use a cookie presser, cookie cutters, or make your own creations by hand. Put onto ungreased cookie sheet and sprinkle colored sugar on top of each cookie. Bake for 8-15 minutes, depending on the size and thickness of the cookie. They are ready when they just begin to turn a golden brown. Store in decorative tins, or in glass containers. They stay good for weeks. Enjoy!
