Why I Love This Recipe
Did you know that the original Rice Krispies Treats recipe was created by a savvy marketing employee at Kellogg's in the 1930s? This simple yet beloved treat was designed to promote the company's new puffed rice cereal, and it quickly became a hit with families across America.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 bag (10 oz) marshmallows
6 cups crispy rice cereal
1/4 cup butter, divided
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 cup graham cracker crumbs
1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
Directions
Prepare a campfire or grill for medium-low heat. Grease a large sheet of aluminum foil with cooking spray.
In a large pot or Dutch oven, melt 3 tablespoons of the butter over the campfire or grill. Add the marshmallows and stir constantly until completely melted and smooth.
Remove the pot from the heat and stir in the vanilla extract and cinnamon. Immediately fold in the crispy rice cereal, mixing until well coated.
Spread the mixture evenly onto the prepared aluminum foil. Sprinkle the graham cracker crumbs over the top and gently press them into the surface.
Melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter in a small skillet or saucepan over the campfire or grill. Remove from heat and stir in the mini chocolate chips until they are melted and smooth.
Drizzle the melted chocolate mixture over the top of the crispy treats.
Allow the treats to cool and set for about 15 minutes before cutting into squares or bars.
Serve warm or at room temperature, and enjoy the delightful combination of crispy rice cereal, gooey marshmallows, and the flavors of graham crackers and chocolate.
