I love apple pie, and it is honestly really easy to make.
Ingredients You'll Need
1 recipe for homemade or store-bought pie crust, divided for top and bottom
5 cups tart apples (e.g., Granny Smith), peeled, cored, and sliced
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1/4 cup light brown sugar
2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Pinch of salt
2 tablespoons lemon juice
4 tablespoons unsalted butter
1/2 cup caramel sauce, divided
Directions
For the Pie Filling
1. Preheat your oven to 375°F.
2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sliced apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, salt, and lemon juice. Toss until the apples are evenly coated.
3. Prepare your pie crust and line a 9-inch pie dish with the bottom crust. Trim the edges to overhang slightly.
5. Spoon the apple mixture onto the crust, spreading it evenly.
6. Cut the butter into small pats and dot over the apples.
7. Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the apples.
8. Roll out the second pie crust and place it over the filling. Trim and crimp the edges to seal. Cut a few slits in the top crust to vent.
For Baking
9. Place the pie on a baking sheet to catch drips and bake in the preheated oven for 50-60 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is bubbly.
10. Cool the pie on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving.
11. Drizzle the remaining caramel sauce over the top before serving, if desired
