Why I Love This Recipe

Chai tea has been enjoyed for centuries in India and has a rich cultural history. It was traditionally consumed for its medicinal properties and later gained popularity as a flavorful beverage.

Ingredients You'll Need

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
1/4 teaspoon ground allspice
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup whole milk
2 chai tea bags
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups confectioners' sugar
2 tablespoons heavy cream
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Ground cinnamon, for garnish

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, spices, and salt.

In a small saucepan, heat the milk until just simmering. Remove from heat and add the chai tea bags. Let steep for 10 minutes, then remove the tea bags and allow the milk to cool to room temperature.

In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.

Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the chai-infused milk, until just combined.

Spoon the batter into the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full. Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.

For the frosting, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add the confectioners' sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract, beating until smooth and fluffy.

Pipe or spread the frosting onto the cooled cupcakes. Sprinkle with ground cinnamon for garnish.

Serve and enjoy!

Pairs Well With

A warm spiced chai latte made with the same blend of spices used in the cupcakes would be a perfect pairing, enhancing the overall flavor experience.
