Why I Love This Recipe
Kansas City is renowned for its unique style of BBQ, which is sweet and tangy—making it a perfect addition to these hot dogs.
Ingredients You'll Need
8 all-beef hot dogs
8 hot dog buns
1 cup Kansas City-style BBQ sauce, divided
1/2 cup shredded cheese (Cheddar or Monterey Jack preferred)
1/2 cup crispy onion straws
2 scallions, sliced thinly
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
Optional: pickled jalapeños for topping
Equipment: grill or stovetop grill pan, basting brush
Directions
Preheat your grill to medium heat.
In a small bowl, reserve 1/4 cup of Kansas City-style BBQ Sauce for topping later.
Grill the hot dogs for about 5-7 minutes, turning occasionally, until slightly charred and heated through.
During grilling, use a basting brush to lightly coat the hot dogs with BBQ sauce occasionally, letting them caramelize.
While the hot dogs cook, brush the inside of the hot dog buns with melted butter. Lightly toast them on the grill for 1-2 minutes, until golden and warm.
Assemble the hot dogs by placing each grilled hot dog in a toasted bun. Sprinkle shredded cheese on each and top with crispy onion straws, sliced scallions, and optional pickled jalapeños.
Drizzle the reserved BBQ sauce over each hot dog for added flavor. Serve immediately and enjoy!
