Why I Love This Recipe

If you like Chinese buffets, but try to eat healthier, this is the perfect alternative for you. This spicy-sour soup is an excellent choice for a cold day when you feel like having a hearty soup.

Ingredients You'll Need

1 tbs fresh ginger
1 tbs Asian chili paste
1 tbs oil
a handful of mushrooms
1 garlic clove
1 can of bamboo shoots
½ dl soy sauce
½ dl rice vinegar
pinch brown sugar
1 teaspoon of Sichuan pepper
1 packet of chicken stock
1 pack of tofu tofu
4 tsp edible starch in 1 dl of water
1 egg
decorate with spring onions


In the heated wok, start frying the freshly grated ginger and chili paste with a little oil. After it got some color, add the mushroom. The easiest to find is the dry version, which you should soak in a little warm water before you start cooking.

After, add the garlic and the bamboo shoots cut into smaller pieces to the stock. Then add soy sauce, rice, and the spices: salt, pepper, sugar and the Sichuan pepper. If you don't know what Sichuan pepper is, check here.

Finally pour it all together and cook for 5 minutes with the tofu.

To achieve a thicker texture, stir starch with the cold water and add it to the soup and. Then add a beaten egg, slowly poured to the boiling soup.

Serve the soup warmly with ornamented onion.
