Why I Love This Recipe

My Mom would bake this for Thanksgiving every year and then she would cook this for other special occasions. Below there are the pure substances there are homogeneous mixtures and there are heterogeneous mixtures. Mixing the toppings together is a physical change. Melting the butter to put on the sweet potato is a physical change. One chemical change is that it turns brown but does not burn. Lastly, my last chemical reaction is that the Sweet Potato Casserole smelled sweet like a sugary caramel.

Ingredients You'll Need

3 lbs. Sweet Potato ( heterogeneous mixtures)
1 cup milk ( homogeneous mixtures)
3/4 cup sugar ( Pure substance ) C12H22011
3/4 cup butter ( Homogeneous mixture)
2 eggs ( Heterogeneous mixture )
2 Tbs. cornstarch ( Homogeneous mixture )
dash cinnamon ( Homogeneous mixture )

1 1/2 cup corn flakes ( homogeneous mixture )
3/4 brown sugar ( Homogeneous mixture )
1 cup plus 2 Tbs. butter ( Homogeneous mixture )
1 1/2 cups walnuts ( Heterogeneous mixture )
1 1/2 cups coconut flakes ( Homogeneous mixture )



Preheat oven to 400 F. Cook potatoes with skins until soft. Cool and then peel potatoes.

In a bowl mix the sweet potatoes, milk sugar, butter, eggs, cornstarch, and cinnamon together until smooth. Pour into a 9x11 pan. Cook for 30 minutes.

While that is cooking make the topping

In a saucepan on low heat add the corn flakes, brown sugar, butter, walnuts, and cornflakes. Cook until the butter has melted and everything is mixed together then pour on top of cooked potatoes.
