Ingredients You'll Need

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/2 cup orange juice
1 tbsp orange zest
1/2 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
For the chocolate frosting:
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
2 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/4 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla extract


Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tin with paper liners.

In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the eggs, one at a time, then stir in the orange juice and orange zest.

Gradually mix in the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract, until just combined.

Pour the batter into the prepared cupcake tin, filling each liner 2/3 full.

Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Allow the cupcakes to cool completely before frosting.

To make the chocolate frosting, beat the butter until creamy, then gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder.

Mix in the milk and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

Frost the cooled cupcakes with the chocolate frosting and garnish with orange zest or chocolate shavings if desired.

Pairs Well With

A glass of sweet sherry or a cup of freshly brewed coffee
