Why I Love This Recipe

This is the first pie in my pie a week challenge.

This is the standard apple pie recipe many people grew up with, my grandmother always added a pad of butter before putting her masterpiece in the oven.

On this particular one, I wanted to make the vent like the Apple logo because the Macs are taking over our house. I am aware I flipped it. :P

Ingredients You'll Need

Crusts for a 9" pie
6 apples (3 Granny Smith, 3 Macintosh, or mix up however you like)
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup brown sugar
1 tbsp butter

1 egg
1 tsp cinnamon
1 tsp sugar

Preheat oven to 350.

Prep your crust and pie pan, roll out top and cut vent.

Peel your apples, chop them up into bite size cubes (or whatever).

Toss apple pieces, lemon juice, cinnamon and brown sugar in bowl, pour into uncooked pie crust and top with butter.

Top with reserved crust.

Bake for 30 minutes. Whisk egg. Mix cinnamon and sugar together.

Remove pie from oven, use pastry brush to coat crust with egg and sprinkle with cinnamon-sugar.

Bake for 10 minutes more.
