Why I Love This Recipe

The King Arthur Flour Cookie Companion

This is the quintessential crunchy (as opposed to chewy) chocolate chip cookie

Ingredients You'll Need

1/2 cup unsalted butter
1/2 cup vegetable shortening
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp vanilla
3/4 tsp salt
1 tbsp cider vinegar or white vinegar
1 large egg
1 tsp baking soda
2 cup unbleached flour
3 cups semisweet chocolate chips

Preheat the oven to 350 F

Lightly grease (or line with parchment) two baking sheets

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the butter, shortening, both of the sugars, vanilla, salt, and the vinegar.

Beat in the egg

Add the baking soda and the flour

Stir in the chocolate chips

Drop the dough by the tablespoonful onto the prepared baking sheets

Bake the cookies for 12 to 14 minutes or until they are golden brown

Remove them from the oven

Transfer to a rack to cool
