Why I Love This Recipe

My youngest son is a huge hot dog fan but I didn't like to serve him these fatty salty treats full of preservatives very often so I embarked upon finding a recipe to make my own and thus have a little more control over the nutrition aspect of them. He's a teenager now and these are still a favorite treat requested often.

Ingredients You'll Need

1 pound hot dogs, turkey
1 cup all-purpose flour
2/3 cup cornmeal
2 tablespoons sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon dry mustard
1 large egg, beaten
3/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons canola oil
canola oil, for frying

Directions

Pat hot dogs dry with a paper towel. If desired insert wooden skewer into one end of each hot dog. Set aside. Combine flour, cornmeal, sugar, baking powder, and dry mustard, mixing well. Combine egg, milk, and oil and mix with a fork. Combine whet and dry ingredients and mix thoroughly.

Coat hot dogs with the batter and fry two at a time in a large skillet for three minutes turning a few times.
