Why I Love This Recipe
The chocolate chip cookie was invented by accident in 1938 when Ruth Wakefield added broken chocolate pieces to her butter cookie recipe, expecting them to melt. The chips held their shape, and a legend was born!
Ingredients You'll Need
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1 cup unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup packed dark brown sugar
2 large eggs, room temperature
2 tsp vanilla extract
2 cups high-quality dark chocolate chips
1 cup toasted macadamia nuts, roughly chopped
1/2 cup toffee bits
1/4 cup malted milk powder
Flaky sea salt for sprinkling
Directions
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, and malted milk powder. Set aside.
In a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream softened butter and both sugars on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 3-4 minutes.
Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
Beat in vanilla extract until combined.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined.
Fold in chocolate chips, toasted macadamia nuts, and toffee bits by hand until evenly distributed.
Cover the dough and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight for best results.
Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Scoop chilled dough using a 2-tablespoon cookie scoop, placing cookies about 3 inches apart on the prepared baking sheets.
Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden brown and centers are still slightly soft.
Remove from oven and immediately sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
Allow cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
Store cooled cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days, or freeze for up to 3 months.
Pairs Well With
A frothy, homemade malted milkshake spiked with a touch of bourbon for adults, or virgin for kids. The malt complements the cookie's secret ingredient perfectly.
