Why I Love This Recipe

This here is one of my dads specialties. He doesn't cook a lot of things, but the stuff he does make is just unreal. He would bake these on Saturday mornings, I used to love waking up and smelling them. It was one of the few things that could get me up before cartoons started. The secret ingredient in these muffins is sour dough starter. Seriously. I didn't know it till I asked him for the recipe a couple weeks ago, you can't taste it at all. But it adds something to them, they just aren't the same without it. I actually haven't been able to make them myself since I haven't gotten my hands on any starter, but I figured I would share them anyhow.

Ingredients You'll Need

1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 tsps baking powder
1/4 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup sourdough starter
1 beaten egg
1/2 cup orange juice
1/4 cup milk
1/3 cup oil
2 tsps grated orange peel
3/4 cup chocolate chips

Mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and soda

In a separate bowl mix together the starter, egg, juice, milk, oil and peel

Add starter mix all at once to the dry ingredients, stir them just till moistened

Fold in the chips

Fill greased or lined muffin tins 2/3 full

Bake at 375 for 18-20 minutes
