Mason jar cakes originated as a way to easily transport and enjoy individual servings of cake, and they also make for an adorable presentation!

Ingredients You'll Need

3 cups all-purpose flour
3 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 tablespoon baking soda
2 teaspoons salt
4 large eggs
1 1/2 cups milk
1 cup vegetable oil
4 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups boiling water
2 cups heavy cream
2 tablespoons confectioners' sugar
2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
Fresh strawberries, for topping
Chocolate chips, for garnish


Preheat the oven to 350°F and place 8 wide-mouth 8-ounce mason jars on a baking sheet.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and beat on medium speed for 2 minutes.

Stir in the boiling water until the batter is well combined.

Pour the batter into the mason jars, filling them about halfway.

Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

While the cakes are baking, whip the heavy cream, confectioners' sugar, and vanilla extract together until stiff peaks form.

Once the cakes are done, let them cool slightly, then top each with a generous dollop of whipped cream, sliced strawberries, and a sprinkle of chocolate chips.

Serve immediately and enjoy the decadent chocolate cake in a jar!
