Why I Love This Recipe

The first known recipe for brownies was published in the 1897 Sears, Roebuck catalog and was marketed as a convenient way for homemakers to bake using the newly available baking chocolate.


Ingredients You'll Need

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup light brown sugar
4 large eggs
1 tablespoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips, divided


Directions

Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan with butter or non-stick cooking spray.


In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.


Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.


In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.


Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.


Fold in 3/4 cup of the chocolate chips.


Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan.


Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup of chocolate chips over the top of the batter.


Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs attached.


Allow the brownies to cool completely before cutting into squares and serving.


Pairs Well With

A tall glass of cold milk or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for a classic and indulgent treat.
