Why I Love This Recipe

This recipe came from the back of an evaporated milk can. I had just bought jonathan apples to bake with. This is a little different from other apple crisp recipes I've made in the past. We really liked it a lot. I plan on making it again soon.

Ingredients You'll Need

6 cups apples sliced
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp cornstarch
1/2 cup evaporated milk
1 cup quick cooking oats
1/3 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup butter, melted
1/3 cup evaporated milk

Directions

Place sliced apples in 8 x 8" baking dish. Mix sugar and cornstarch, stir in the evaporated milk and pour over the apples. Mix the oats, flour, brown sugar, salt and cinnamon together, stir in the melted butter until mixture is crumbly. Spread mixture on top of apples, spoon 1/3 cup evaporated milk over crumbs. Bake at 325º for 60 - 70 minutes or until apples are tender.

**my tweaks...I cut the salt back to 1/8 tsp. My oven runs a little hot and this dessert was ready in 60 minutes.

Questions, Comments & Reviews

This sounds great, you said it is different from your usual apple crisp, I just wondered how it differed. I made one using cake mix & butter on the top recently and it turned out too doughy so I wondered if this one stays crisp. I have apples and would like to either make crisp or pie today. Thanks.
