Why I Love This Recipe

I remember Mom making this when I was young. She served it as a salad but as you can see from the recipe, it is really a frozen dessert. Yummy!!!

The recipe was originally clipped from a newspaper, The Charlotte Observer, most likely.

Ingredients You'll Need

3 ripe bananas
1 cup canned pineapple, sliced
1 cup canned pears, diced
1 dozen, maraschino cherries, thinly sliced
1 cup fruit salad dressing
1 cup heavy cream, whipped

1/4 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 tablespoons flour
1 egg
2 tablespoons vinegar
3/4 cup pineapple juice

Salad Dressing directions

Mix together sugar, salt, four, vinegar and pineapple juice, stirring well after each addition.

Cook over a low heat until thick and smooth, stirring constantly

Cool before adding to salad.

Make about 1 cup

Salad directions

Mash bananas to a smooth pulp.

Add pineapple, pears, and cherries.

Add fruit salad dressing

Fold into whipped cream

Pour into a 8 inch square dish.

A quart milk carton works well for freezer container and mold for salad.

Freeze to solidly frozen.

Remove from mold and slice.

Serve immediately
